Great Aussie BBQ (Wardy & Sons) is a mobile BBQ catering business operating across Sydney, Australia. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, why we collect it, and how it’s handled, and is intended to align with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Enquiries and quote requests

When you contact us through our website — whether by filling in a contact form, requesting a quote, or emailing us directly — we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, and information about your event (e.g. date, location, guest numbers).

We only collect and use this information to respond to your enquiry and discuss your event with you. That’s it. We do not add you to any newsletter or mailing list, we do not send marketing or promotional emails, and we do not use your details for any purpose beyond managing your booking and any directly related communication (for example, sending a quote or confirming event details). Your details are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

This reflects our obligations under APP 3 (collection of solicited personal information) and APP 6 (use or disclosure of personal information) — we only collect what we need, and only use it for the purpose you gave it to us for.

We retain enquiry and booking details only for as long as reasonably necessary to manage your event and meet basic record-keeping obligations (e.g. invoicing, tax purposes — generally up to 5 years, in line with Australian tax record requirements). If you’d like us to delete your details earlier, just get in touch and we’re happy to do so — see “Your rights” below.

Comments

If our website allows comments (for example, on a blog or testimonials page), when visitors leave a comment we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you’re using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to our website, please avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website may be able to download and extract location data from images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for your convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter these details when you next leave a comment. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page (administrative access only), we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We also use cookies to support basic website functionality, such as remembering your cookie consent preferences and helping our site run smoothly. We don’t use cookies for advertising or marketing tracking.

Who we share your data with

We don’t share your personal details with third parties for marketing purposes, and we don’t sell your data, in line with APP 7 (direct marketing). Limited information may be shared with trusted service providers who help us operate our website or business (for example, our website hosting provider, or a spam-detection service for comments), strictly to the extent needed for them to provide that service to us.

If you request a password reset for site administration purposes, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

We may also disclose information where required by Australian law (for example, to meet tax or regulatory obligations), or to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if required as part of a privacy complaint or investigation.

How long we retain your data

In line with APP 11 (security of personal information), we don’t keep personal information for longer than we need it.

Enquiries and event bookings: We keep your contact and event details only for as long as needed to manage your booking and meet basic legal/record-keeping obligations (such as Australian tax record requirements), after which they are securely deleted or de-identified.

Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

Website administrators/users (if any): For users who register on our website, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username, which cannot be changed). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your rights over your data

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (including APP 12 — access to personal information, and APP 13 — correction of personal information), you can ask us, at any time, to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you,
  • correct any information that’s inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete,
  • delete your personal information, where we’re not required to keep it for legal, administrative, or security purposes.

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can also request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you.

To make any of these requests, simply contact us using the details on our Contact page and we’ll action it as soon as possible, generally within 30 days.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service.

Website hosting and related technical infrastructure may store data on servers located outside Australia. In line with APP 8 (cross-border disclosure), we take reasonable steps to ensure any third-party service we use handles your data securely and appropriately, even where it’s stored overseas.

Data breaches

If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to anyone whose personal information we hold, we will notify both the affected individuals and the OAIC, in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under the Privacy Act.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our website or legal requirements. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
